Reverend James A. Johnson, Jr. was born on June 14, 1949 to the late James A. Johnson, Sr. and Bernice Bethea Johnson in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He departed this life on August 19, 2020 in Concord North Carolina in Cabarrus County.
Reverend Johnson attended the public schools of Marlboro County. He worked for many years at Cooper Tools Wire Wrap Operations in Cheraw, South Carolina until retirement. After retirement he worked part-time at Wachovia Bank and at the Laurinburg Hope in Christ Ministry Food Bank.
Reverend Johnson started his Christian experience at Level Green United Methodist Church. Later, he became a member of Tabernacle of Prayer in Laurinburg, North Carolina under Reverend Osmar Kelly, where he was a faithful member until becoming ill.
Reverend Johnson was preceded in death by his father and mother, James A. Johnson, Sr. and Bernice Bethea Johnson; wife, Evelyn Moore Johnson; six siblings, Sarah Dupree, Margaret Stuckey, Shirley Fletcher, Larry Dupree, James D. Johnson, and Tony Dupree.
Left to cherish his loving memories are his daughter, Taneickia Brown of Laurinburg, NC; son, Darius (Chanika) Ash of Georgia, four grandchildren, and two sisters, Reverend Bernice Johnson and Edith Mae Thomas, both of Bennettsville, SC, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends and his prayer partner, Elder Polly Ash of New York.
A celebration of life service was held on Tuesday, August 25th, 3:00 pm at Tabernacle of Prayer for all People, 320 McGirt Bridge Road, Laurinburg, North Carolina 28532 with Reverend Osmar Kelly, officiating.
