In love and infinite wisdom, our Heavenly Father has released from all suffering and called unto that new and larger life, the gentle spirit of this beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. Howard Crosland was the son of the late Joe and Georgella Crosland Johnson. He was raised by his grandmother, Mary Brown Crosland. Howard was born on February 26, 1947, in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He attended the public schools of Marlboro County, where he was a graduate of Eastside High School Class of 1966. Howard was a proud member of The Purple Devils basketball and football teams. Upon completion of his schooling, Howard joined the United States Army. He served with Co E5th, Bn 3rd BDT Bde, Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He completed two tours in Vietnam. Howard received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star as part of his awards for his service. He did receive an Honorable discharge.At an early age he was accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Dyers Hill A.M.E Zion Church in Bennettsville, South Carolina.In 1969, Howard was joined in Holy Matrimony to Genora Rickenbacker and this union was blessed with two children.One son Howard Crosland, Jr. preceded him in death; also two brothers, Herman Crosland and William Crosland, Sr.On Friday, October 16, 2020, Howard Crosland, Sr. departed this life at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters: Dallas (Dwayne) Gurley of Charlotte, NC, Janean Crosland of Atlanta, GA; two sons: Jamice R. Thompson of Brooklyn, NY and Lasean Logan of Bronx, NY; thirteen grandchildren: Dre'lin, Damien, Danaisha, Raheem, Saudia, Kamilah, Rasheed, Elijah, Rakia, Trey, Ian, Jamice Jr., and Omauri; a host of great grandchildren; three sisters: Selena M. Covington of Bennettsville, SC, Joe Ann Chaney of Columbia, SC and Ella Nora Johnson of Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Prentiss (Paulette) Crosland of Staten Island, NY and Dennis (Creanna) Crosland of Florence, SC; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. All whom will miss him dearly.Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 21st, 1:00 pm at the Florence National Cemetery.
