John Willie (JW – Bae-Bae) Watson

Mr. John Willie (JW - Bae-Bae) Watson was born on August 24, 1950 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Mr. Willie and Reverend Edith Smith Watson. He answered the Master's call to come home on December 23, 2020 at McLeod Health Hospital in Florence, South Carolina.
Bae-Bae attended the public schools of Marlboro County. He later entered the Job Corps where he developed a love for boxing. He moved to Anaheim, California to pursue a career in boxing for several years under the ring name of Joh "Spider" Watson. He later returned home and became employed at JP Stevens (Delta Plant) in Wallace, South Carolina. He left South Carolina to make his home in Raleigh, North Carolina where he worked in construction. A few years ago, he returned to Bennettsville to help his family assist with caring for his beloved mother.
Bae-Bae was converted and baptized at an early age and joined Sawmill Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of Reverend E.M. Booker.
He was an avid reader and loved doing construction work until his health began to fail. He also enjoyed spending time at McDonald's and Bojangles with the senior citizen groups.
Bae-Bae was preceded in death by his father and mother, the late Mr. Willie and Reverend Edith Smith Watson.
Left to cherish his loving memories are his siblings, brothers: Jacob Watson of the home Luther (Bertha) Watson and Frederick Watson of Bennettsville, SC; sisters: Vanessa (Reverend Osmar) Kelly of Laurinburg, NC and Hiltra Watson of Bennettsville, SC; nieces and nephews: Sean, Travas, Brandi, Steven (Jamil) Shannon (Jermaine), LaShonda, Frederick Jr., and Tiara (Mitchell); great nieces and nephews: Demetrius, Zamiya, Destiny, Samiya, Jamaine Jr., Imani, Dunivah, Delegrande, Dalaquan, and Ja'Niya; aunts: Mary Lee Brown, and Louise Smith of Bennettsville and Sedonia Smith of Sanford, NC; a host of cousins and friends; extended family (Dease sisters and brothers); two cousins whom he enjoyed talking with, James "Pete" Watson and Alex Watson; his school friend Otis Bethea, Jr. and a dear friend Mrs. Yvonnia Blackmon of Raleigh, NC.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, 2 pm at Historical Sawmill Missionary Baptist Church, Bennettsville.
