Angels among us, angels all around us. God dispatched His angels to usher his faithful servant Selena Mae Crosland Covington to eternal rest on Saturday, June 12, 2021.Selena was born July 18, 1945, to the late George Ella Crosland Johnson in Bennettsville, SC. Selena lived her entire fruitful life in Bennettsville. She was a proud graduate of Eastside High School, Class of 1963 and worked diligently always to represent her alma mater and keep Eastside's history ever-present in the community. She was a model employee of then Emerson Electric and now Marley for More than forty years.Selena accepted Christ at an early age at Dyers Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and remained faithful until she united in Holy Matrimony to her soulmate Jimmy Covington, who preceded her in death. She moved her membership to Sawmill Baptist Church to worship together as husband and wife. To this union, two children were born, Machell and Jimmy Jr., both of the home.Selena was a dedicated working member of Sawmill's many ministries to name a few, the Pastors' Aid, Deaconess, Missionaries, the Birthday Club, and the Kitchen Committee. The kitchen and cooking were definitely her passion. At the church or home, Selena was, "Home on the Range." You can't name one dish because they were all Blue Ribbons. Selena was very stylish in her projects. She was STYLE.... She felt that her outfit was not complete without her beautiful, classy hats to accent her attire. And she wore them very well. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Herman, William, and Howard Crosland and one sister Mary Reed.Selena leaves to cherish her memories: one devoted grandson, Jermaine McIver, Orangeburg, SC; three sisters: Joe Ann Chaney, Irmo, SC, Ella Nora Johnson, Tucker, GA, and Mary Tyson of Brooklyn, NY; four brothers: Prentiss Crosland (Paulette) Staten Island, NY, Dennis Crosland (Creeanna) Florence, SC, Prince Reed (Debra) Charlotte, NC, Ricky Reed (Wanda) Bennettsville, SC; one uncle Isaiah Reed, Bennettsville, SC; a very special matriarch cousin Elizabeth (Pig) Haliburton, Bronx, NY; a special sister Grace Lyles Murray; nine sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, three goddaughters: Renee Murphy, YoLanda Bethea, Christine Vanlierop, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever keep her memory alive.
