Ruth B. Covington, aka "Cookie" was born on March 18, 1942 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Mr. James Harvey and Mrs. Pearl Jacobs Brewington. On February 12, 2021, she departed this earthly life in Laurinburg, North Carolina.Ruth attended Eastside High School in Bennettsville. After graduating she moved to Brooklyn, New York, and was employed with New York Telephone Company. Ruth moved back to Bennettsville in 1970, and worked at Marlboro County Health Department until she retired."Cookie" as she was known to many, was preceded in death by her parents, James Harvey Brewington and Pearl Jacob Brewington; seven brothers: Calvin, Harvey, Roscoe, Roosevelt, James T., Sidney, and Lindbergh Brewington; two sisters: Pearl Moore and Maggie Reese; one grandchild, Naomi Lyvonne Baker.In departing, she leaves to cherish her memories: Christopher W. Covington, Brenda L. Covington and Jason F. Everett; ten grandchildren: Virginia Baskin, Aminah Covington, Cornelius L. Covington, Natalie C. Baker Allen, Nathaniel Baker, Jr., Jamal Jones, Akira Everett, Makalah Morrison, Nadaya Everett, Jalan Everett; twelve great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a special friend, "Popcorn."Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 28, 1:00 pm at the Berea Convention Center.
